Full Moon in Aquarius: Into the Swan

supermoon-01The Full Moon August 10 2014 falls at 18º Aquarius on fixed star Sualocin the dolphin. It is one of three summer Super Moons where the Full Moon is the closest to the earth. The Full Moon falls in Aquarius decan 2 which contains the swan and the crane. Sualocin is very sweet and naive and the Crane is known for its elaborate courtship dances. This is a shy moon, but is also a bit “come hither”. Quietly alluring, peeping at you coyly with an inviting twinkle in its eye. But it is a bittersweet bird with its lovely white feathers cloaking a black skin. Both the swan and the crane share long, regal necks so this Moon has something very stately about it and is able to hold its head high through the most traumatic of situations. Keeping a cool detached head may be something that those touched by this moon will have to do, as you will see from the challenging aspects that follow.

The Moon aspects by themselves are about balancing. Moon opposite Mercury surfaces as an internal battle between the logical mind and gut instinct. But the restlessness creates energy constantly in a state of flux, like the tides washing in and out. This is very creative and self-purifying with a huge need to communicate fluctuating moods to a wider audience. Moon opposite Lilith; The Moon and the Black Moon are such polar opposites, that in an opposition they could actually end up cancelling each other out. A successful balance of these two would mean that the domestic moon can restrain Lilith from going too far off the rails and lusty Lilith could break some of the moons stagnating habits. However Saturn is critiquing this balancing act, while the Sun is combust Lilith conjunct Mercury.

INTO A SWAN

full-Moon-AquariusThe Moon square Saturn makes us grow up quickly, while deep inside Saturn’s armour is a very soft-centred needy child. However with this tough Super Moon we are loathed to show any fragile sides to our character, so most of this month we will appear very strong, capable and most of all independent. Sun square Saturn however will make us feel tested and criticised. We may feel that we have too many challenges to overcome at this full Moon. At the same time we will feel the need to put on a brave face and laugh off any suggestion that we are going through a hard time. The bittersweet swan will want to paper over any Saturn cracks with some pretty wallpaper. This is just a temporary measure until it feels less emotional. We won’t want to lose face.

Sun conjunct (combust) Mercury may give us a hard time being heard or taken seriously by authority figures with those who protest to much being gagged. To gain attention we could resort to playing the clown thinking heck if what we say is branded “silly” then we might as well take that silliness to the extreme! Jokes will be used as a defence mechanism for our Saturn T-square. Sun conjunct (combust) Lilith will play out as our egos feeling exiled from the dominant patriarchal system. This could be as a result of some abuse reported in the news from male authority figures. The closer Lilith is to the Sun the more the sacred feminine is going to feel eclipsed by patriarchy unless it is cazimi. But this conjunction at 44’ is tantalisingly too close for comfort and yet not close enough. It is interesting that the next New Moon on August 25 is on fixed star Regulus which has into Virgo in recent years. So I think this Super Full Moon will remind us that we are still in transition.
